A wart is an infection which is caused by a virus that gets into your skin through small cuts or breaks. Warts are most commonly seen on the bottom of the foot, also known as plantar warts, but on occasion they may appear on the top of the foot.
Warts can grow up to an inch or more across and may have a cluster of smaller warts surrounding them. If left untreated, warts can spread to other parts of the body and even be spread to other people very easily. It is vital to see a podiatrist since warts can persist for years and reoccur in the same spots until they are effectively treated.
Podiatrists can treat warts through prescribing medication, curettaging, lasering and even freezing or burning depending on the size and location of the warts. Unfortunately, even after warts are removed they may reappear.
